Use tepid water to gently handwash and rinse the garment. Sudden changes or extremes in water temperature may cause shrinkage. We recommend using a specific ‘delicate’ or ‘wool wash’ detergent, adding the suggested amount to a bowl of tepid water until dissolved. Then submerge the garment and use your hands to gently swish it around, then leave to soak for ten minutes.
Rinse the garment thoroughly until the water runs clear, gently pressing out the water each time. Do not wring or hang-dry your garment. Lay the garment in a large, clean, colourfast towel and roll the towel up, gently squeezing out any excess water until the garment is slightly damp. For a perfect finish, hand shape the scalloped edge and then leave to dry on a new towel away from direct sunlight.
Fold the garment lightly and encase it in white, acid-free tissue paper. Slip the garment into a clean pillowcase and store in a dry cupboard. It is recommended not to place anything on top of the garment package to avoid flattening. If you think you may have a moth problem, store bars of lavender scented soap nearby. When you need to use the garment again from storage, a quick spray of starch and gentle shaping is usually sufficient to restore it.
